Hello! I have a great way to kick off the weekend.
On the table this morning for Bangers and Mash-ups — store-bought bran muffins — sorry I didn’t have time to bake— fresh pineapple and organic French Vanilla yogurt. Coffee, lots of coffee.
After many years of thinking e-readers would be never be popular, I’m in the market to buy one.
Do not throw that muffin at me.
I polled friends, the children of my friends, people on planes (yes I did) and relatives. Every person I chatted with loves their Kindle, I-Pad or Nook. I settled on a Kindle. I was ready to get on Amazon’s site and order a Kindle 3G but an earlier discussion with my husband made me do a Google search first.
Was anyone coming out with something new and wonderful for the holidays?
Guess what I found?
Early adopters and tech people are saying that Amazon is coming out with a Kindle Tablet as early as September/October in time for the holiday season. That could mean any day now!
Mind you, Amazon isn’t saying anything, they’ve only verified that they are indeed going to release a new tablet style e-reader soon. Here’s the info I’ve compiled from various sites.
It will be cheaper than an iPad. Some reports say $399.00 others say $299.00 or lower. I say TERRIFIC.
It will work on a 5G Android system and it will have a touch screen. Sounds good to me.
There will be two sizes: a ten inch model and a 7 inch model. I’ll probably go with a seven-inch model. Not sure. Which one would you choose?
Video streaming will either be free with purchase or free for a limited time. Besides books and videos there will be apps. Apps! I get apps!
I’m very excited about this development. I can’t wait for Amazon to make the announcement to see how much it is, how it works and what it looks like.
Which brings us back to books. I love finding new authors and I found some practically at my back door in the amazing group of writers I met in Kristen Lamb’s Blogging To Build Your Brand class. These people find time for all their passions whether it be their favorite charity, their families, or their day jobs, and as evidenced in their blogs (see My Circle of Friends) these women are definitely passionate about writing.
Are you looking for something fresh and new to read too? Get your e-reader humming…it’s the long weekend…

I just heard about the new Amazon tablet as well. It sounds exciting. I have a 2nd generation Kindle and also a Kobo (Canadian Chapters stores). I much prefer the Kindle in terms of ease of usage (keyboard, page buttons) but it really is out of date now and I’ll upgrade (Dear Santa …) when the new one is out.
Thanks for highlighting all of the published authors in our group! I’ve already begun downloading and look forward to doing a review for each one.

I have a feeling Dear Santa will be getting a bunch of those letters like he did last year with i-Pad. I think it’s wonderful you’re going to do reviews Patricia. Thanks!

Haha, I’ve been polling my friends on Facebook about the Kindle. I’m thinking of asking for one for Christmas too. There are more people in our group with books than I thought! So far, it looks like the Kindle is winning out… 😀

I’ve always been a big B&N supporter because our local store was always so good to authors. I really thought I was going to buy a Nook. When I asked people it always seemed to be in favor of Kindles too. One airport person told me that in her book club of twenty some people the ones who had other e-readers ditched them and bought Kindles. She really didn’t give me a good reason just something vague about Kindles don’t have problems like other e-readers do.

Personally, I’d rather have a Kindle or Nook, but I have a 10″ notebook that I use all the time. So, I want a dedicated reader. I have a friend who loves tablets. I played with one (yes, she has two) for a while, and it is cool, but probably not my speed.
Thanks for including me in your circle of friends and mentioning Keepers. And I love that nice list so I have my to read additions all in one place. 🙂
Thanks for the info.I love hearing about new tech stuff.

I’m in awe of people who own more than one tablet. In a home decor article they reccomended hanging up your “old” tablet on the kitchen wall so you can look up recipes or surf the net while you’re in the kitchen. Now tell me… WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE? LOL
No problem mentioning the book. I love the entire premise and am looking forward to reading it. Thanks for all your support too.

That’s a great list, Kate! Thanks for including my romantic suspense novel Spy Babe. 🙂 I didn’t realize we had so many published authors in our group.
I have a Kindle 3, and I love it. I like the dedicated ereaders with e-ink better than the backlit screens of tablets for reading. But I also love my iPad because it’s so versatile, so I can understand the allure of an Amazon tablet, especially the 7″ one–so portable!
It will be interesting to see how things shake out between the Amazon tablet and the color Nook, and how Barnes & Noble responds to the new competition.
Thanks again for the reading list!

It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out. Good point about the e-ink that is something to consider. You’re welcome for the reading list. Thanks for coming by Sharon. Spy Babe sounds like a fun book.

I still haven’t joined the 21st century and purchased a kindle or nook. Well, we’ve purchased one as a gift, but we don’t have one. I do have both downloaded on my PC….but I LOVE hard back books. I guess I’m just old fashioned.
GREAT mashup!

I love hard back books too. Especially old hard backs from used book stores. Big sigh. My decision to get a Kindle has to do with travel. I’m always schlepping a big bag of books with me. Thanks Tiffany!

Hola Kate!
I’m holding out for the e-reader that has Smell-o-Vision and a Dolby surround sound system. 🙂
I’ve been waffling on whether to get a Kindle or an iPad. Either way, two months after I make the purchase, there will be a new and improved version.
Have a great weekend.

LOL, I forgot about Smell-o-Vision thanks for reminding me.
I understand about the buy it and two months later there will be something new. I think that’s why I was so excited about this. I felt like this was something new, maybe in price range and I can be cool for a few months. LOL! Thanks Jen for the comment.

I have a Kindle 3, and I love it. Check out my post on having an affair with my Kindle (http://nataliehartford.com/2011/03/29/dear-blog%e2%80%a6i-am-having-an-affair%e2%80%a6/). I agree with Sharon, I like the dedicated e-reader with e-ink. It’s far easier to read than the backlit screens of tablets although I don’t have an iPad so I’ve never tried it but just compared to reading on a computer screen. I’ll be very interested to see what Amazon comes out with.
I never think of myself as someone who has the latest gadgets but hubby says I do. He claims when I “update” my Kindle for the latest and greatest version, he’ll inherit the older version…much like the Blackberry fiasco. LOL!!
ENJOY – I can’t wait to hear allll about it!!!

hey, thanks for the shout out!! I LOVE my Kindle. I was a pure book person before Hubby gave me the Kindle last year. I was actually angry about it, but now…I just LOVE it. Plus, I published on it, so…ya know..
What a great list of indies too! Thank you. I’m going to go shopping now.
Kate MacNicol said:
I’d say I have some great indies on my list. I can’t wait to get my Kindle. I wish they’d hurry up and release the Tablet so I can make a decision! It took me a long time to get to the point where I wanted one. I felt I was betraying paper. LOL! Writers love paper…
