Kick Ass Heroines

The idea for this page began with a blog post I wrote Wanted: Kick Ass Heroines about writing a series and asking readers who their favorite kick butt heroines were. I’ll continue to add kick ass heroines as I read but if you have a heroine in a book series you’d like me to add to this page, I’d love to hear about it. No erotica please. You can leave your recommendation in the comments and I’ll add you to the permanent list along with a link to your blog or website.

Kick Ass Heroines I found in a Google Search:

The Mercedes Thompson series by Patricia Briggs (urban fantasy)

The Jill Kismit series by Lilith Saintcrow (fantasy)

The Weather Warden series –Rachel Caine (this one came up twice on Good Reads as a must read) Fantasy or Science Fiction, not sure…

The Rose Hathaway series – Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead (Y.A.)

Loup Garron series by Jacqueline Carey (fantasy)

Here are some recommendations from my fabulous readers.

Natalie Hartford said; “Susan Bischoff has The Talent Chronicles. YA paranormal. I’ve read book one and her main character is a female heroine who does kick butt so you might enjoy those:
Kait Nolan has written The Mirus Series, a paranormal romance/urban fantasy hybrid.  I haven’t read them and don’t know if it’s a female heroine but from the cover, I think so. I read her book RED and it’s fantastic with a strong female heroine. I expect this series would be insanely delicious.
Both these woman have amazing blogs and are talented writers. I wouldn’t hesitate to get in touch with them directly if you have any questions. They are uber friendly!” —-

Tameri Etherton suggests: The Nine Kingdoms Series :Star of the Morning, The Mage’s Daughter and The Princess of the Swords by Lyn Kurland. “There appear to be more in the ‘series of the nine kingdoms’, but I think those aren’t with the same characters. From what I read on Amazon, this is a little bit different from what Kurland usually writes, but I’ve never read anything else from her. If you like epic fantasy, Kristen Britain’s Green Rider series is good and has a fiesty heroine as well.”

Angela Wallace suggests: Definitely The Mercedes Thompson series by Patricia Briggs and Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead. See links above. Those are two of my favorite series (and while I’ve read tons of books and enjoy a lot, not many are my “favorite”).The Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost is also great.

I suggest Jennifer L Armentrout’s Lux series (the lux series about aliens, not the old fashioned, high end society one), meg Cabot’s Mediator Series and Rachel Vincent’s Soul Screamers. What I like about Katy (lux), Suze (mediator) and Kaylee (soul screamers) is that not only are they kick ass, but they refuse to step back when people think they need to be protected; they want to fight their own battles.
