How are things going in your world? It’s late autumn/early winter here in Indiana, the trees are bare and night falls early around 6 p.m. At my house homemade soups and healthy casseroles are what’s for dinner and I’m crazy for anything made with pumpkin including an occasional skinny pumpkin latte from Starbucks when I’m in the city running errands. As I write this I’m drinking Celestial Seasonings Pumpkin Spice Tea with a wee splash of honey. Yum!
My friend Natalie (and soon to be published author!!! Congrats girl!!! ) says she loves this season because she seems to curl up and read more. I do too. Me, my little dog Earl, plus a throw and a great book equals pure bliss on a blustery autumn/winter day.
The top three books on my reading pile are The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman, Pure by Julianna Baggott and Home to Big Stone Gap by Adriana Trigiani. I’m almost finished with Jo Jo Moyes book The Girl You Left Behind and I’m already sad this tale is ending. She is a masterful storyteller!
Downloaded on my Kindle and waiting patiently for my little dog and cozy throw are The
Goldfinch by Donna Tartt AND good friend and blogging buddy Patricia Sand’s newest book, The Promise of Provence.
Cue the drum roll please…. Patricia is giving away free downloads of The Promise of Provence today, December 4th and tomorrow, December 5th on her blog. Just click the book title link above, download your copy and prepare to be transported. Since I’m all about reading “experience,” Little dog Earl and I will be enjoying a fine red or a toasty mug of mulled wine while reading this one. Let the snow fly because I’ll be in France thank you very much. Hmmm…I wonder how you say “Earl” in French???
So how about you? Do you pair books with beverages/cats/dogs/ and blankets too?
Do you read more during the last months of the year or less? Tell us what’s on your TBR pile. Comments on any of the books mentioned here are welcome but please, please, please, no plot spoilers. Don’t make Earl have to drop his book to stalk you!
Coming up soon we’ll talk about focus, mindfulness, habits, holiday eating (a popular post:) change and details of friend Natalie’s upcoming book. Whew! Time to grab that mug:)
Until next time,
Have a happy healthy day!
Kate~
