Hi! Welcome to Kate’s Quickies where you get one great writing-related link, sometimes two. Usually on the weekend. Quick and easy. In and out. No wasting time. Get back to your writing:)
My apologies to my regular subscribers for not sending out Quickies and other blog posts. I’ve been caught in the midst of a health issue that literally stopped me in my tracks. I’m beginning to feel much better but it’s a slow process. Kind of like writing a book. Ha!
Speaking of writing:)— how do you feel about revisions? Personally, I love them, this is when the story really begins to hang together, characters deepen and theme begins to emerge.
James Scott Bell’s book Revision and Self-Editing is one of my favorite guides to revising my work. He has written several books on writing craft and is a successful thriller author as well. In other words, this guy knows his way around a novel. This link caught my eye:
Four Ways To Revise As You Write Your Novel
From this link go to his website and check out his books and Story Masters Workshops that he teaches with writer and film-maker Christopher Vogler and literary agent Donald Maass.
Are you new to James Scott Bell or have you read his books or attended a workshop?
Now go have some fun and write something good!
Happy revising!
Kate~
Hey, Kate! I’m sorry to hear you’ve been sick, but glad you’re feeling better. It’s been a tough winter health wise for most of the country.
I don’t know if I’ll love revisions or not. I get how it can feel good to flesh out scenes and characters, correct any plot issues, and make sure the story is on the right road all the way through. I guess I won’t know til I get there whether I’d consider it fun.
I love James Scott Bell! He’s a great writer and and teacher. He makes everything he teaches so easy to understand and put into practice.
Well, go back to having fun with your revisions. Can’t wait to read the book when it’s done!
Thanks Marcia. I have a weird thing– well, it’s weird to me— called deep vein insufficiency. Very painful and I could barely walk. Going down stairs is still difficult. Not good for an active person like myself! I’m having surgery in March.
I think you’ll love revisions Marcia. I’m so looking forward to reading about your kick ass heroine’s adventures.
Aw, Kate, that stinks! Thank goodness your surgery is soon. You’ll be back to your active self by summer, no doubt! Hang in there, girl!
I’ve been blogging about revising, or starting again this week!! That book looks like a great help – thanks for the tip. (Hope you get better soon
)
You’re welcome! Thanks for stopping by and I promise to come visit your site as well. I’m glad to hear you’re starting again:)
Sorry to hear about the health problem but I’m glad you are on the mend.
Thanks Cassandra. I’m rarely sick so this through me for a loop. I try to appreciate my health and now I know I will never take it for granted again:)
I’m looking forward to catching up with you and all my other blogger buddies soon.
I know how that goes. I just had surgery at the beginning of the year and I’m still not up to 100% yet.
I look forward to seeing more from you when your ‘up and running’ again.
I’m so sorry to hear you had health problems as well. It’s especially difficult because you have young children. Mom can’t be sick:) When they’re adults and off on their own— Mom still can’t sick — but they can take care of themselves.
BTW, I can’t believe I wrote “through” instead of “threw” in my last response. Geesh.
